The rejuvenating power of coffee has been shown in two recent, independent studies, which unanimously confirm that coffee can reduce the risks of stroke, liver disease, heart diseases and consequently prolongs your life.
What gives the two studies some credibility is that they were conducted with a large population of cohorts. The first study watches the effects of coffee on the longevity of 185,000 white and non-white participants since the early 1990s and concludes, after 16 years of intensive study, that those who drink a cup of coffee per day have a 12% lower risk of death at any particular age. And those who drink two or three cups of coffee per day have an 18% lower risk of death.
The second study, likewise, with a larger population of participants (450,000 people in total), engaged between 1992 and 2000 across ten countries in Europe, discovers that after taking other factors such as physical activity, education, age, and smoking into consideration, those who drink 3 or more cups of coffee a day have an 18% lower risk of early death in men and a 8% lower risk of death in women. Regular coffee drinkers are also found to develop better biological markers such as glucose control and enzymes.
However, the researchers could not directly pinpoint that coffee alone may have been responsible for these amazing results. They believe that the health status of the coffee-drinkers may also have contributed to the overall outcomes of the studies, both published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. And they do not emphasize which type of coffee produces the better result, whether caffeinated or decaffeinated one. The researchers conclude that more studies are still needed to further probe this scintillating discovery.
